A collaboration between  HelpingWithMath.com and Drs. Mclean and Rusconi of Abertay University, exploring the early stages of students' mathematical development, resulted in their academic paper, Mathematical difficulties as decoupling of expectation and development trajectories, which you will find published here in the Frontiers in Human Science Journal. In simple terms the paper explores children's mathematical development compared to what is expected of them from the curriculum with a view to identifying problems that they may experience. You will find their "translation" intended for parents and other non-academics below.
